Houston’s LindyFest 2012

Tejas is a big state so it deserves a big Lindy Hop event to match! Houston’s Lindy Fest is that giant event, now in it’s 16th year, that has always been at the fore front of continuing the tradition of joy and instruction of Lindy Hop. This years was no exception great workshops, great music, and even better dancing! The event went under a big change this year by moving away from the usually venue for classes, Jewish Community Center, and moved into the Intercontinental Hotel in Houston. This was a huge change for the event and it couldn’t have been in a better place, this hotel was amazing!

I was very honored this year to be able to teach and perform at the event this year. The classes were amazing and I got a chance to perform a modified version of a chair routine, Crazy As A Loon Can Be click here to see it, with my buddy Nick Williams. It has nothing to do with Lindy Hop but this routine definitely challenged us as dancers.

We also had some fun times in the photo both with the boys and my new suit!

Lone Star Championship 2012

The Austin, TX based Lindy Hop event has in five year turned into on of the best places to go and get your dance on. Whether it be to dance to some amazing live music with your favorite fellow dancers, compete in one of the 11 Lindy Hop contests, or to simply “geek out” on some sing-a-longs. The Lone Star Championships is a fun and safe environment to just be who you are and enjoy that with other like minded people.

This year I was honored to again be invited to teach, judge, and compete in some of the contest of the weekend. Here are some of the videos from the weekend, enjoy!

This is the Invitational Strictly Lindy Hop contest. I was fortunate to dance with the lovely and talented Gaby Cook. We are second in the line up…

Next is the Invitational Jack & Jill Lindy Hop contest. Here the leads draw the name of a follow and are judged on how well they are able to dance together. I drew the amazing Kelly Arsenault.

But oh no, the fun doesn’t end there, then we had to choose a song at random from the eras of the 70s, 80s, and 90s… We choose the 90s, here was the resulting dance!

Every New Years Eve, in Asheville, NC, Lindy Focus brings together some great talent in the world of Lindy Hop and Swing to bring people a great show. Evita Arce does an amazing job of stringing together a story out of the cabaret of dance acts.

This year Mikey Pedroza and Nikki Marvin performed a brand new routine entitled Moonglow. This is our brand of slow dancing and it involves a lot fun and trust! Lindy Hop? Blues? Or just something we made up? Either way , enjoy!

Lindy Focus X & Tri-Swing Tournament

The Tri-Swing Tournament was an amazing all encompassing swing dance contest that took place at the annual event in Asheville, NC called Lindy Focus. Contestants were judged on three styles of Swing dance, Balboa, Blues, and Lindy Hop! The finals were danced to the musical styling of Jonathan Stout and his Campus Five. Thanks to the amazing job of the video crew, the videos of the camp were on YouTube with in 24 hours. This is an edited version of the finals showcasing the spotlights of Mikey Pedroza and Nikki Marvin.

24 Hour Cancer Dance-a-Thon 2011

This years 24 Hour Cancer Dance-a-Thon was a huge success! I was very fortunate to take part in this charity event, that brings together many lovers of Lindy Hop and Swing music, for such a great cause. All the donations toward this charity goes to the City of Hope Cancer & Diabetes Research Center.

There has been a few misconceptions about the event and so I decided to put together a little Vlog to talk about it. Enjoy the Vlog but please visit the Dance-a-thon website to see how you can give back and take part in next years event.

Nikki Marvin, James Bianco, Irina Amzashvilli, and I left the Dance-a-Thon for a few hours to dance for KTLA on the morning news… Don’t judge we we’re tired and couldn’t hear the music anyways…

Lone Star Champion-Sip ?

In preparation for the Lone Star Championships, a great event in Austin, Texas in January, the organizers decided to come up with an official drink for the event. And in the heat of the moment a decision was made to make a video promo for the event and the drink. The powers that be over at the Lone Star Championships called in a few favors and asked Mike Roberts, Andrew Thigpen and myself to put together a dramatic re telling of that faithful night in which this drink was given its name, The Lone Star Champion-Sip! Yes it’s a mouthful but it’s something you want to put in your mouth… Sorry, it’s just the Sip talking
